Mark H Rummeli, a visiting professor at the Centre of Polymer and Carbon Materials Polish Academy of Sciences in Zabrze, is being awarded an honorary Doctor of Science by London Metropolitan University for his contributions to Science.

The award was given at the universities award ceremony December 7th, 2015 at the London Barbican Center.

Prof. Rummeli is a former alumni from London Metropolitan University where he obtained his BSc in Physics and Computer Electronics and his PhD in Analytical Chemistry and Plasma Physics. After obtaining his PhD he spent several years working on the development of e-learning platforms for healthcare education programs. He later returned to science when he joined the DLR, the German Aerospace institute, where he worked on a joint DLR/NASA program, the SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy). His scientific career then continued at the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Science, Germany, where he founded and built the Molecular Nanostructures Group which he still runs to this day. He recently spent time in South Korea where he was a professor at the Department of Energy Science at Sungkyunkwan University. At the same time he was a group leader at a Korean Institute of Basic Science where he founded the Structural Analysis Group. He has recently joined the College of Physics, Optoelectronics and Energy, Soochow University, China.

In short

The Center belongs to category A of scientific facilities in Poland. It was established on January 1, 2007 as a result of a merger of the Center of Polymer Chemistry of PAN in Zabrze and the Institute of Carbochemistry of PAN in Gliwice – two centers of the Polish Academy of Sciences which, for many years, had been conducting systematic work on the production and properties of macromolecular polymer and carbon materials.
